Single parents with college degrees have higher job prospects

As the unemployment rate continues to rise and the job market becomes increasingly competitive, single parents may be able to avoid layoffs by pursuing a degree through colleges online.

Because traditional four-year degree programs are designed for young people who are able to devote their full attention to their coursework, few parents are able to afford the financial and time commitments that are required of these tracks. Additionally, university campuses are not always healthy environments for young children, which could prove problematic for some adult learners.

However, online programs allow these individuals to complete their coursework from home on their own time. Stay-at-home parents may sneak a lesson while their toddlers are napping or do homework during school hours.

Mothers and fathers who are familiar with the demands of a college degree program may be better equipped to help their children with their schoolwork and help them transition into an associates or bachelors degree program.

Educated parents who complete an online program may be able to launch a new career after their children leave for college.

Individuals who take advantage of grants for single parents or other financial aid opportunities for students can find a sense of self-fulfillment through an online degree program without letting their children down.

As a single parent, this kind of thing really gives me hope about my ability to eventually earn more and give my kids what I never had. It’s hard lately but we can’t give up!

    Good info, ty.

This is just what I needed to read. My wife passed away last year and left me with two small children to raise. I work all day and leave them at daycare, so I just cannot go out to school at night. Online school may be just what I need. TY.

This is so true these days. I did not go to college after graduation in the 60′s. I got a really good job and advanced to the top. Then I got married and quit work to raise children. When I found myself divorced in the 90′s and tried to get back into the work force, it was impossible without a college degree. Times have changed.

My husband is very, very ill and will not live much longer. I have my bachelors degree in teaching, but have never taught. I have three children that I am going to have to support. I am so relieved to hear that I can start getting my MBA online while nursing my husband. At least I will be in a better position to support the family.
