As the demand for qualified healthcare professionals continues to grow, some nurses may want to consider enrolling in a nursing degree online, which may make them more valuable to their employers.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of registered nurses (RNs) is expected to grow by 22 percent over the next eight years. Training for these professionals can be completed through diploma, associates or bachelors programs.
Although these figures indicate positive career prospects for current and prospective RNs, many industry experts are calling for new regulations that could require nurses to gain additional training at nursing universities before they begin working with patients.
The American Organization of Nurse Executives and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing have suggested that a baccalaureate degree should be a prerequisite for entry into a nursing practice, according to a recent publication from the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.
The report also states that nurses who have earned bachelors in nursing degrees may achieve better patient outcomes.
Nurses who wish to earn this certification without halting their professional development may want to consider enrolling in online colleges, which could help them schedule their coursework around a busy lifestyle.
