Online College Program in Virginia Offers Degree for Engineering Students

Individuals who hope to earn a college degree may find it difficult to leave their home and family. Now the state of Virginia is looking to remedy this situation for those interested in engineering degrees.

The News and Advance is reporting that the “Engineers PRODUCED in Virginia” program will allow people to obtain an engineering degree from the University of Virginia and remain close to home. Students will take online classes and complete coursework via the internet.

Danville Community College started offering associates degrees in engineering two years ago. Now students can complete that program and continue their studies at the University of Virginia.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, job growth for engineers over the next decade is anticipated to increase by at least 10 percent. People who complete an engineering degree can expect to have a competitive edge in the job market.

Engineering degree hopefuls may also turn to online colleges and online courses to earn an online bachelor engineering degree.

Engineering seems like a difficult degree to acquire. Wouldn’t doing it online be even harder since you are by yourself and you don’t have 1 on 1 with your professor?

I have been working for a construction company for 2 years and find that I am very interested in designing houses. If I want to go back to school for a degree in architecture, do I need a bachelors degree?

There will probably always be a great need for all kinds of engineers, however, with technology going the way it is, wouldn’t that be a better choice for a career.

I was injured in an automobile accident over the summer. I was planning to go away to college in the fall, but now I don’t think I can. I was going to go for engineering, and I was wondering if this is a degree I can do online, so I don’t get behind?

I never realized there were so many different kinds of engineers. Now I need to research all of the different engineering fields and decide if that is what I want. I am really good math,so I would probably do well.

Hey Barney. A bachelor’s degree is the most common type of degree achieved by most people, but there are also associates and masters programs available.

Hi Connie. Most engineering courses require some form of chemistry, but the number of courses depends on which engineering specialty you are considering going into.

Hi Gary! Yes, there are many scholarships out there for those interested in going into a green career. For example, there is the Dr. W. Wesley Eckenfelder scholarship that is geared specifically towards those interested in engineering.

Hi Walter. Engineering drafting may be something you’ll want to consider if you are artistic. There are various fields in engineering that could use someone with art talent.
