Indiana Program Makes it Easier to Earn Teaching Degrees Online

The teaching profession remains one of the most reliable careers in today’s tough economy. Now two universities in Indiana are making it easier for people to attain a teaching accredited degree online.

According to news channel WHTR, Ball State University and Ivy Tech Community College are currently allowing students to start their education at the smaller institution and then transfer to the four-year university to complete their studies. The move could save prospective educators thousands of dollars in tuition fees.

“This is a huge incentive for people to become part of what is the most important profession,” Ivy Tech president Thomas Snyder told the news source.

Those who do not live in close proximity to Ball State’s Muncie, Indiana campus may still find this program enticing since the institution is offering online classes.

“They can complete their degree anywhere in Indiana or beyond,” Jo Ann Gora, Ball State University president told the media outlet.  This gives students the benefits of earning a distance degree.

According to a study from Salary.com, the average income for a teacher in the United States in 2009 was over $50,000 annually. Many jobseekers will find a teaching degree leads them to a satisfying career with flexible hours, steady pay and extra time to spend with their families. Online schools offer a convenient way to earn the credentials that are needed to become a teacher.

I am already a teacher. However, I have decided to specialize in English and after reading your article have found that I can go to school online and get extra credits for my specialty and thereby increase my salary. Thank you.

I am very happy that you are able to get a teaching degree online. I have always wanted to teach elementary school! How long do these degrees usually take to complete?
