Busy Moms and Dads Get Education Online

Some parents may be longing to complete their undergraduate or graduate education. However, for some individuals, taking care of children may be too time-consuming and costly to return to school.

However, many of these individuals are discovering that earning an online college degree is the best option for juggling parenting and a career. Many of these online education programs allow students to make their own schedule, which could help them balance school, family and even a career.

Although some students may believe that schools online cannot offer them the same things as brick-and-mortar institutions, many online colleges have created programs that are intended to benefit busy parents. Furthermore, many of these schools aim to award students for their hard work by hosting graduation ceremonies for recent degree holders from across the country.

For example, Capella University just held its 18th commencement ceremony. The event included 550 online degree graduates who were able to attend the Phoenix, Arizona ceremony.

“Earning a degree is an exciting and challenging journey that requires hard work, determination, and commitment. Each of Capella’s graduating students deserves our applause for their perseverance, personal growth, and academic achievements,” said Chris Cassirer, president of the university.

I am a single working mom and want to go back to school to get my degree. I currently work in customer service in a bank. I want to work in the operations department, doing computer processing. What course of study do you suggest for me to get started?

I am in my 50′s and have not been in school for many years. I would like to go back and get my bachelors degree in psychology. Are there any indicators of how well older students do in online college?

I am interested in going back to school to get my degree online. I do not feel real confident enough about my computer skills and was wondering if there is a beginner course for technology?

I think it is really great that there are graduation ceremonies and online degrees allow parents to go to school and still be home with children. What I am wondering is if there is any educational support as there is in brick and morter schools, for those who are having trouble understanding or learning?

This is such a great idea. I went to school at night to get my bachelors degree and it was very difficult. I had decided I was done with that. But, is it possible to get an MBA online?

Yes, I attended on campus school for my associates degree and it was really difficult to work all day and then go out at night in the cold and snow to class. I am in my 50′s and this now way of going to school is going to enable me to finish and get my bachelors degree.

I had just about finished college when I found myself expecting my first child and had to quit. Can I now go to an online school and finish my degree, even though it’s a different school?

Hi Mary. A university/college may accept your transferred credits but it may not be guaranteed. Check with an academic advisor to see if your credits transfer and how to continue working on your degree. Good luck!
