Many individuals make the choice to work towards human services degrees because they want to help other individuals or give back to their communities. Some people see problems where they live, and choose to pursue a bachelors or associates degree to acquire the tools to fix these issues.
In Monterey County, California, healthcare professionals recently reported a shortage of social workers, which may inspire some to return to school and complete human services degrees. The Monterey County Herald revealed that a local team of faculty and administrators came together in order to create a part-time masters degree program to meet students’ needs.
According to the news provider, returning to school could be a significant career move for those who hold bachelors degrees in social work. Qualified professionals in this field can earn $53,640 to $73,272 annually if they have a masters degree, as opposed to $44,604 to $60,924 with a bachelors degree only.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics further revealed promising news that careers for social workers are expected to grow faster than the national average over the next eight years.

Those numbers are pretty impressive looking. Human services looks like yet another field that is on the verge of growing rapidly much like nursing. People getting paid more to help others in their community is never a bad thing at all!

People wanting to help the community for a career should be encouraged all the way. Its great to see in real dollars how much more you could make with a little extra schooling. We should make it easier for these people to get their degrees and its great that they can earn a good living while doing it!

Hello Samantha. Since you already have a degree I’d recommend speaking with an advisor at the school you plan to attend to see how you can get started on your social work degree. Each school is different so it is best to speak with someone there. Good luck!
