Although it is no longer uncommon to see students bringing diaper bags to lectures, many parents are seeking alternative educational outlets like online degree programs that help them uphold their family responsibilities while they work toward a degree.
Increasing numbers of parents are choosing to return to school, and these figures are expected to increase due to the passage of the Healthcare and Education Reconciliation Act, which will offer assistance to traditional and nontraditional student who wish to earn a degree, News Net Nebraska reports.
For example, the number of nontraditional students who have entered degree programs at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln campus has risen by more than 100 over the past eight years, according to the news source.
Many mothers and fathers who are attending brick-and-mortar institutions say that finding a balance between school, work and family is the most important key to success. However, some parents may sacrifice this balance in order to fulfill their multiple obligations.
Fortunately, several schools online offer programs that are tailored to this group of students. An online degree can be completed at any time from anywhere with an internet connection, which could allow busy parents to make their own study schedules.

This is so true. I have one 5 year old child and I work all day and have been going to school at night to get my MBA, meaning there is little time for my boy. This could be a great option for the completion of my degree, finish online and be home.

My husband travels frequently for work leaving me to take care of our three children. I’d like to go to school for Elementary Education but I want to know how flexible the online programs are as far as having to complete assignments at certain times.

Hi Quinn. An advantage of online schooling is flexibility. As far as completing assignments, projects, term papers etc. it depends on the professor and course. Some professors may tell you in advance about homework or a project, while others may give you a limited amount of time. It varies.

Hi Marie. There are some online degree programs available in nursing. However, you’ll need to speak with an advisor at both the school you are attending and plan to attend to get everything in order. You’ll want to make sure your credits and transferable and that you’ll still be eligible for graduation within the next two years. Good luck!
