Many industries are becoming increasingly reliant on machines to increase their productivity, which could increase job prospects for mechanical engineers who have earned masters or doctoral degrees.
To help exceptional students prepare for this fast-growing sector, several campus-based and online schools are increasing their offerings in particular sections of engineering, such as robotics. For example, Massachusetts-based Worcester Polytechnic Institute recently announced the launch of a new PhD program in robotics engineering, Mass High Tech reports.
The school, which launched the country’s first bachelors degree in the field three years ago, is the third university to create this course of study that caters to the growing market for mechanical engineers. Individuals who choose to enroll in similar college degree programs may study computer science as well as mechanical, electrical and computer engineering.
These college degree programs could put students at the forefront of an emerging industry, as the demand for professionals who know how to work with robots is expected to increase.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, job opportunities for mechanical engineers could increase by as much as 6 percent over the next eight years.

It’s crazy how many jobs will be opening up in this field. I’m interested in this, but wouldn’t the courses be pretty challenging for someone coming out of high school?

I have always been very mechanically inclined, and find technology very fascinating. I have do alright in school, but not great. I am concerned about whether I can handle this kind of career. If I go to school online and start with an associates degree, would I be able to start working in this industry and then complete my education as I progress?

i’m interested in engineering but it’s so much math!

This sounds like a great career for someone like me who has always loved finding out how things work. Do any of the technology companies provide financial aid for students in this type of program?
