An Online Education Costs Less Overall

As the country emerges from the recent recession, more people are finding that they need to update their qualifications to be competitive in today’s job market. To get ahead without shifting one’s lifestyle too much, many people look to online education as a means to become certified in a new specialty or take refresher courses.

Now, some find that online education is also a financially smart choice to make when enrolling in new courses.

A recently posted article on the financial commentary blog, FavStocks.com discussed the monetary rewards from selecting an online degree program. Online courses generally cost less than those available through on-campus academic institutions, and individuals don’t have to travel to attend classes.

Online education allows one to protect his or her precious time, while utilizing the latest in technology, from web chats with professors, to watching YouTube clips from foreign countries. This can actually help enhance one’s tech skill-set.

Additionally, online degree programs allow one to become more disciplined as most study is independent, the news provider reveals. Potential employers may also recognize this and find it to be an attractive quality.

Makes sense to me. You aren’t paying for classrooms, facilities, etc. Seems like the better option!

I am considering going back to school online and would like to be able to do some research as to the level of excellence in the studies that I am going for. Is there any way to check with other students who have completed their degree online?

I am interested in getting my degree online. The company that I work for offers tuition reimbursement for school. How long should it take to get a bachelors degree online if I take 2 courses per semester?

It also cost less to go to online college becasue I don’t have to live oncampus, or drive a car. I also like the fact that my parents can join in and help.

Hi Alexandra. A survey by the Distance Education and Training Council (DETC) found that almost 70 percent of corporate supervisors rated the value of a distance degree as “just as valuable” or “more valuable” than traditional “on-campus” degrees in the same field. You are still receiving proper education and training.

When I got the job I am at now, my boss actually chose me over someone else because he was impressed that I was going to college online. He said it showed I could work independently and that I was disciplined and motivated. He has even helped me out with the costs on a few of my classes and he doesn’t offer that as a company benefit!

Hey Sly. Online degrees can take as much or as little time as you need them to take. The amount of time it takes to complete a degree varies on the number of courses a student takes per semester. Best of luck in your online degree pursuit!

Hi Ashley. Textbook prices are pretty expensive. Some eTextbooks are available which are less costly; you can also buy used textbooks and even rent them which is a lot less than buying brand new books.

Hey Mac. The great thing about online education is that you can work around your busy schedule and “go to school” when you have the time. Most parents find that they are able to go to class, do homework and study late in the evening when the kids are asleep. Hope this schedule works out for you!

Hi Danny. Most online courses can provide a textbook online. However, if your professor requests you buy the book you can try finding an eBook or buying it used to save you some money.

Hi Adam. Most professors require students to have a textbook, but online courses often use eBooks rather than a formal text.
