Future Social Workers Earn Degrees Quickly Online

While a bachelors degree is a sufficient qualification for most positions in the social work field, individuals who wish to advance quickly may need to earn campus-based or online masters degrees. However, professionals who have already established close relationships with their clients may worry that their progress will be reversed if they leave their current positions to pursue an advanced college degree.

Consequently, many campus-based and online colleges are tweaking their offerings to cater to working students in this industry by offering online degree programs.

For example, Bluffton University recently announced some changes to its college degree programs in social work, which are intended to help social workers enhance their qualifications without letting their clients down, the Bluffton Icon reports. These alterations include more convenient scheduling options and more efficient coursework – characteristics that are typical of most online degree programs.

An online degree program could help social workers land the high-paying jobs that are expected to become available in the coming years.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the demand for these professionals is slated to increase by 16 percent over the next eight years, and individuals who hold advanced college degrees are likely to see the best career prospects.

I am half way through my degree in social work and was wondering if it would be wise to switch to online classes at the point. It would make my life easier as I work all day. But are online courses considered with the same importance as on campus courses?

One of the biggest adavantages of an online degree program is that it fits your schedule. A student can attend a class from anywhere with a computer and internet connection. Colleges sometimes have recommendations from students who tried, succeeded and loved the programs.

I will have to check this out. I took an online class because of availability and I really liked it. It was good not to stress over making it to class on time – I’m always running a little late! I was shocked that it was still tough and I had to study just as much as I do for my campus classes.

Hey Michelle. If your daughter has only begun taking her core courses than she may be okay, however her courses in her major may not transfer over into a psychology degree. She will need to speak with an advisor at her school to find out what she needs to do to transition into a different degree program.

Hey Charles. Many people start off with an associate’s degree first and then continue on their way to a bachelor’s or master’s degree. Incorporating work and school through an online program can make things much easier. You’ll want to speak with an advisor about your current game plan and see if this is the way to go.

Hey Alyson. If you’re considered switching to online courses I’d suggest speaking with your college or university advisor to see if they offer an online program for social work. If you plan to switch to an online school then speak with an advisor at your school and the school you plan to attend to discuss transferring.
