Portfolio assessment classes
Check with your schools student services department for a class that offers portfolio assessment for credits. What I mean by this is let’s say you have a lot of life experience but have not really attended many college courses. Something like this would be perfect for you. The portfolio classes are a gem because in some instances you can get up to about 30 credit hours just from writing a portfolio of your life events. As a prior enrollment counselor at a major online University our college offered students the ability to write papers on events in their lives that were significant like child-birth, marriage, divorce, death etc. These papers would then be evaluated for content, grammar, punctuality and whatnot. And based on a certain criteria a committee would assign credits for the whole portfolio. This is a great way to get most, if not all, the first year electives out of the way. This is one of the ways that some Universities allow students to graduate at an accelerated rate. CLEP tests, or College Level Entrance Prep tests, allow students to test-out of certain subjects like English, Science, History and even some Math classes. Check with your local colleges about both of these services and you too can certainly finish your degree in a shorter amount of time.
