Are social networking sites a bad thing?

            Many of us have been to the social networking sites like myspace.com and facebook.com, and love to chat with others about the goings on in this world, but when is enough enough? What I am fed up with is all of the sites that display videos of graphic proportion, pornography and viruses. I know you are reading this thinking if you do not like such sites then stay off of them. Well for the most part, I do.

Long gone are the days when you could really only get exposed to a computer virus by opening up an attachment. Now, hackers have gotten cleaver and have infected some of these most popular sites with spyware and viruses. Just last month my wife was on one of the mentioned sites and she picked up a Malware virus. I tried and tried to clean it with all the major well known anti-virus programs with no luck. I tried to re-boot in safe-mode and then the computer crashed and erased the operating system. Luckily, I was able to retrieve almost everything with some fantastic free undelete programs. If anyone wants to know the name of the programs that I used for the recovery please email me, or reply to this post and I can let you know. Lesson learned here: Backup all your photos and important documents periodically, especially those mid-term papers that you are working on for college.
