Get your Advanced degree and do not delay
In this crazy economy it becomes important to ensure that you are brushing up on your skills, and for those that have a Bachelor degree now may be the time to get a Master degree. Nowadays, it seems like one cannot get a decent waged job without at least an undergraduate degree. Now most importantly, many employers want more education from their employees. More education means that the employee is more ambitious, somewhat more responsible and may have less of an attendance issue. A Master degree shows one going for more then completion of a degree, but more of a dedication to career so to speak. I have not first hand experienced any promotion, or change in job title or anything since receiving my Masters degree as of yet. I do somewhat feel more marketable and want to now get my worth. I am in a union job so my salary is above average and it is hard to replace that, but I have a glimmer of hope that my Master degree will now help me land that perfect job. Now no longer am I an entry level employee. I feel that I have done my time and now want to get an executive type position from another firm. A lot of jobs out there I feel I am way over qualified for because it does not seem that mid to high level workers leave their jobs as frequently as the entry level workers.
I think that my receiving the Master degree late in life was a huge mistake. In hind sight I would have finished both degrees back to back because now when I put employment records and education on my résumé I feel as though I am under valued because of when I received the degree. Happy Easter!!
