Are students of today learning what they need to in order get a competitive job in the marketplace? Many current workers that have a trade are now finding themselves having to go back to school in order to keep up with where technology is going? I have a friend that is a television repair man and now with the change in technology to HD he is slowing losing his job. As most of you know, in January of next year all over the air broadcasting will be mandated to be in high-definition. What this means is that workers that have been repairing current older TV’s will soon find themselves behind and outdated on their skills.
About six months or so ago; I went to try and buy a new washer and dryer at one of the local big box stores and much to my amazement the sales person talked me out of the newest technology enhanced washer and dryer claiming that many people are not trained on how to fix these appliances if they need repair. He also said that his company was forced to take back three washers because of defects that were unable to be fixed. The sales person validated my concern by telling me that the current place that fixes these washers and dryers currently did not know how to repair the newest models. On a side note, the sales person also told me that finding parts for most of these new appliances were next to impossible.
I think that technology is getting to a place where when everyday appliances wear out soon people will have to go out and purchase the newest models and chances are it will be really expensive and now not so affordable to be replaced
